This past summer, I had the pleasure of interning with the Business Banking division of Wells Fargo with Greater Minnesota’s Ag Team in Owatonna. I assisted in the analysis of credit requests and underwriting of credit analysis proposals, learned business lending, business development, financial analytics, and marketing and consulting. In addition, I participated in team member and partner meetings, attended in-person client meetings with bankers and partners (where needs assessing, discussion of products and services, and loan closings occur), and observed relationship management activities.
Throughout my internship, I was able to put the knowledge and skills I gained from my courses to good work. However, there was a lot of on-the-job training that went along with the internship. I definitely found out that you cannot learn everything from a textbook; each customer, loan, and financial statement is different. Each can present its own difficulties and successes.
I can honestly say one of my favorite parts of the internship was going out on the calls with the Ag Industry Specialists. I loved hearing about the customers and getting to know them! Hearing about their passions and excitement for the current growing season and why they do what they do was really inspiring.
My main goal for the internship was to find out if this was the right fit for my career path. I would say that goal was accomplished, as I have accepted a position with Wells Fargo with their Ag Team to begin after my graduation in May!
